Senior Cosmetic Formulator & Product Developer; Beauty

Our client, a renowned innovator in the cosmetic and skincare industry, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cosmetic Formulator and Product Developer to join their dynamic research and development team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape . This is a critical role responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and refining cutting-edge beauty products, from initial ideation through to final production. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background in chemistry or a related field, extensive experience in cosmetic formulation, and a passion for creating high-performance, market-leading beauty solutions.

You will play a pivotal role in driving product innovation, ensuring product efficacy, safety, and compliance with all relevant regulations. • Lead the formulation and development of new cosmetic and skincare products, from concept to launch.
• Conduct extensive research on raw materials, innovative ingredients, and emerging cosmetic technologies.
• Develop stable, safe, and efficacious product formulations that meet market demands and brand objectives.
• Perform bench-scale formulation, pilot-scale trials, and scale-up studies for manufacturing.
• Conduct stability testing, compatibility studies, and efficacy assessments for new products.
• Ensure all formulations comply with international cosmetic regulations and safety standards.
• Collaborate closely with marketing, R&D, quality assurance, and manufacturing teams.
• Provide technical support and guidance to cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot formulation issues and identify solutions to optimize product performance.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and consumer insights to drive innovation.

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related scientific discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in cosmetic formulation and product development.
• Proven expertise in formulating a wide range of cosmetic products (e.g., skincare, color cosmetics, haircare).
• In-depth knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, their functions, and compatibility.
• Familiarity with cosmetic regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EU Cosmetic Regulation).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and experimental design skills.
• Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques and formulation equipment.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model in the vibrant scientific hub of Stellenbosch, Western Cape .
