Patrol Officer (Twelve posts) (Post Level 14) (Stellenbosch Campus)

Department:
Campus Development, Infrastructure and Services – Campus Security

Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify, investigate, follow up, and keep a record of high‑risk circumstances that could jeopardise the safety of Stellenbosch University property and community.
  • Relieve duties in the Operational Centre for alarm and camera monitoring.
  • Act as the enquiry and reference point for SU during patrols on campus.
  • Provide timely response for standby duty where emergency services are deployed on campus.
  • Assist clients during fire‑drills at residences and academic buildings.
  • Interact positively with campus community members daily and assist in identifying potential safety and/or criminal problems.
  • Deliver excellent customer‑related services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Respond to and manage all emergencies and disasters on campus.
  • Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary, and offer other public assistance (e.g., lock‑out services, jump‑starts, routine information).
Qualifications
  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
  • Valid Grade B registration with PSIRA and PSIRA Event registered.
  • Client‑oriented attitude.
  • Strong human‑relations skills with the ability to interact positively with a diverse university population.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in at least English and Afrikaans.
  • Contactable work‑related references.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Willingness to work shifts.
  • Willingness to provide extra services, such as working overtime, when required from time to time.
  • Must have the physical ability to make an arrest when necessary.
  • Own transport to and from work.
  • Team‑oriented.
  • Ability to function on foot patrol in inclement weather conditions for extended periods.
