Senior Lamp Stack Developer

Overview

Duties include maintaining the in-house custom codebase and webhooks, maintaining and developing plugins for Moodle; managing and developing APIs and other integrations between systems; managing and altering the custom and Moodle databases and helping internal and external clients with system-related issues.

• Executing development, updates, and maintenance of the vanilla PHP-based system codebase, and related integrations with 3rd party systems.
• Develop server and consumer-side RESTful API applications, including authentication.
• Liaise with other business units to develop efficient business processes supported by technology.
• Identifying bugs and implementing effective and efficient bugfixes.
• Manage and administer Moodle LMS, and other related 3rd party systems.
• Update and maintain Moodle LMS platform, including creating custom developed plugins.
• Develop required custom reports based on a scoped design and agreed upon output.
• Assist academics and staff with technical queries and suggest and implement technical interventions to improve business processes.
• Build efficient, testable, and reusable PHP modules.
• Assist staff and students with technical system-related issues via help desk
• Assist the Qualifications team with various online exam processes.
• Liaise with external suppliers around API’s and technical support requests from the staff.
• Provide extensive support to the Academic teams for the Semester requirements on the LMS.
• Maintain and develop data-base driven scripts to perform bulk system actions where needed
• Develop and maintain custom plugins
• Manage roles, permissions and access on the various systems
• Document technical processes
• Mentor junior developer/s and contribute to team development standards and best practices
• Relevant IT related qualification (e.g. Software Engineering, Multimedia Technology etc.).
• At least 5+ years PHP development experience.
• Moodle Administration experience
• Moodle Development experience
• Proof of continuous professional development (development related courses) will be advantageous (LAMP stack, PHP, front-end technologies, API development etc.).
• Working experience in a corporate e-learning or educational environment will be advantageous.

• Strong PHP Development (5+ Years’) experience.
• Experience working with custom-built Vanilla PHP LAMP stack web applications.
• Proficient in MySQL data-base administration, design, and development
• Troubleshooting system issues and identifying bugs, while implementing appropriate and efficient fixes.
• Experience in user authentication, SSO and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments (web services).
• Experience in development of RESTful client-side and server-side API services.
• Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (Kanban Methodology Advantageous)
• Knowledge & experience of Front-End Technologies such as jQuery, AJAX, CSS, HTML and Angular will be advantageous
• Experience working with GIT.
• Experience with Ubuntu or Linux Command Line Interface.
• Thorough understanding of Moodle codebase and data-base schema, as well as understanding of the back-end administration of Moodle.
• Extensive knowledge of the functions and limitations of the Moodle platform.
• Experience in developing custom Moodle reports. (Advantageous)
