Senior Platform Engineer

As part of our Developer Experience team, you’ll be at the heart of how engineering happens at Capitec — shaping the developer journey end‑to‑end and enabling teams to build, ship and innovate with confidence at scale.

• Design and implement infrastructure using code, enabling consistent, repeatable and scalable environments across our cloud platform.
• Build and optimise cloud‑native deployment pipelines that support high‑frequency, low‑risk releases.
• Enhance our internal developer platform, improving how engineers provision infrastructure and deploy services.
• Troubleshoot complex platform and performance issues across distributed systems and lead root‑cause investigations.
• Contribute to architectural decisions across microservices, event‑driven systems and cloud‑native patterns.
• Mentor other engineers and raise the engineering standard across the team.

We operate within a broader platform engineering function responsible for developer experience, Kubernetes and platform support. This role sits in the team focused on our internal developer platform — the tooling engineers use to provision infrastructure, build pipelines and deploy into our cloud environment.

Our platform is used by multiple engineering teams across the business and is central to how we deliver software  team currently includes engineers across multiple seniority levels, and we are adding another senior engineer to strengthen our technical depth.

We build platforms for engineers, not end‑users. That means every decision is grounded in performance, reliability and usability at scale.

• Influence platform architecture across cloud, containers and automation
• Build tools that are used across engineering teams, not just a single product
• Work on complex distributed systems with real production scale
• Introduce new capabilities, including practical AI‑driven enhancements to the developer experience
• Contribute as a senior technical contributor without needing formal line management

• Deep experience in platform engineering, site reliability or Dev Ops engineering
• At least five years of hands‑on experience working in cloud environments
• Strong experience building infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform, Cloud Formation or similar
• Solid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (for example Jenkins or Git Hub Actions)
• Hands‑on experience with containers and orchestration, particularly Kubernetes
• Experience designing and operating cloud‑native systems, including microservices and event‑driven architectures
• Strong scripting or programming capability (for example Python, Go, Bash or Power Shell)
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, supported by relevant certifications
• Strong understanding of networking, security, APIs, databases and distributed systems
• Clear explanation of architecture decisions and the systems built
• Experience leading or influencing engineering practices and mentoring others

• Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational

• Certification in AWS Architecture

• Clear criminal and credit record required
• Role is based in Stellenbosch and may require relocation
