Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville is a forty‑four bed acute care center with a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services for the people of the Bay St. George catchment area. The catchment area services by Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital span from the Port Au Port Peninsula east to Gallants and south to the Jeffrey’s‑St. Fintan’s area, serving a population of approximately 24,000.

Position: Casual Security Officer
Site: Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital & surrounding area.
Overtime: Overtime after 48 hours
Hours: 15‑20 hours per week
Payrate: $19.90 per hour

Key Responsibilities- Patrol hospital grounds: conduct regular rounds of the hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure safety and security.
- Monitor surveillance systems: operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
- Access control: monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
- Respond to emergencies: act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
- Provide customer service: greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Conflict resolution: de‑escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
- Report writing: document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
- Collaboration with hospital staff: work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
- Enforce hospital policies: ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed and address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards.

- Valid first aid & CPR – Level C (from a CSA‑approved vendor)
- Tuberculosis (TB) screening: all healthcare workers must undergo assessment for tuberculosis.
- Vaccination documentation: proof of completion of the full series of childhood/primary vaccinations is required.
- TDAP vaccine: one dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (TDAP) vaccine is required upon reaching 18 years of age.
- Booster requirement: a booster dose of tetanus toxoid‑reduced diphtheria toxoid (TDAP) is required every 10 years.
- Valid class 5 driver licence and willingness to take shifts at sites within a reasonable driving distance.
- English (oral and written) fluency is a must.
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
- Must be able to provide certifications in use of force (UOF) and management of aggressive behaviour (MOAB).
- Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UOF/MOAB training programme prior to onboarding to meet the requirements of the position. The UOF/MOAB training is not paid; however, Paladin will cover all costs of the training with a 6‑month commitment to the position/availability.
