Come join our team! We currently have an exciting possible Temp-to-Perm opportunity in Sterling Heights, MI for an experienced Hydraulic Engineer to work on a Military Vehicle Program.

Job Description

The Contractor position for Staff Mechanical Engineering is a technical role that will provide departmental leadership with a primary focus on fluid and distributed systems.

The primary areas of focus will include hydraulic actuation and pneumatic systems, automatic fire suppression systems, fuel systems, camera cleaning systems, LRU cooling distribution, and winch and fairlead systems.

  • The individual will provide technical oversight and leadership for projects, training, standardization of approaches, mentoring, peer reviews, and guidance when needed.
  • This engineer will provide internal and external customer interface, technical management, and organization for mechanical engineering teams within the department and apply engineering principles to generate designs that solve complex problems.
  • Responsible for the design of subsystems and components to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental, ballistic and mine blast requirements.
  • Conduct requirement decomposition, design, integration and analysis, and release of fluid and mechanical components, mechanisms, and shock attenuation systems.
  • Apply mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for mechanical components and complex welded brackets and mounting provisions.
  • Will support various projects by performing analysis & design, drawing mark‑ups, tolerance stacks along with generating source data for engineering changes.
  • Responsible for writing material requests and shop work requests, tracking delivery and stock of parts, participating in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
  • Provide engineering support during prototype, production vehicle builds, and sustainment.
  • Present design concepts, program status, and issues/challenges to functional and program management in a clear, concise manner and in the context of risk management.
  • Conduct failure analysis, produce required corrective action, and troubleshoot and redesign activities and necessary.
  • Will be responsible for managing cross functional projects and leading complex tasks.
  • Will work with different engineering functions of the organization on various programs.
  • Will work on the customer needs for the vehicle, formulate the subsystem and component requirements, and meet contract expectations.
  • May occasionally be responsible for technical presentations to other engineering groups, the customer and/or leadership.
Required
  • Demonstrated experience developing fluid system functional architecture, schematics, and analytical models and troubleshooting is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams.
  • Solid modeling experience with NX and/or Creo desired.
  • Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.
  • This position may require the candidate to be able to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles is desired. Must meet the anthropometric requirements (ASR) to enter the driver’s station or into an enclosed military vehicle.
    Must be shorter than 6’ 4” and weigh less than 260lbs.
  • Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to other facilities and military installations as required.
  • Able to bring continuous improvement processes and methodologies to the position.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.
  • Works well in a team environment and ability to work independently.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electro‑mechanical, or mechatronic engineering.
Preferred
  • Previous experience working on ground combat vehicles is a plus.
  • 10+ years in a related role is desired.
