Key Responsibilities

This role serves as the technical lead responsible for developing, maintaining, and coordinating comprehensive 3D plant layouts and product carrier designs. The position requires close collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers. The ideal candidate is a proactive self‑starter who can perform accurate field observations and measurements, and effectively translate supplier and vendor data into a unified, interference‑free plant layout.

  • Integrate supplier‑provided 3D CAD models into the overall plant layout using scanned point cloud data to identify interferences, clearance issues, and safety concerns
  • The majority of this individual’s time will be spent in the Detroit area, long stretches will be onsite in Belvidere, IL and Toledo, OH at the plant work site
  • Maintain alignment of all 3D layouts with internal assembly, manufacturing, and safety standards
  • Manage and ensure timely, accurate, and well‑organized submission of all supplier 3D CAD drawings on the designated data‑sharing platform
  • Design and review 3D models of product carriers, conveyors, and related material‑handling equipment for program milestones and reviews
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve layout, integration, and constructability issues
  • Report directly to the Project Manager and support project execution through design validation and technical reviews
Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in 3D CAD design within automotive or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Strong expertise in conveyor systems and product carrier design
  • Proven experience working within 3D point cloud environments as part of the design and validation workflow
  • Ability to interpret field conditions, vendor data, and engineering inputs to develop accurate and buildable plant layouts
