We are seeking a Wire Harness Design Engineer for an established engineering and manufacturing company serving the defense industry.

This hands-on engineering role focuses on electrical wiring harness design, electrical schematics, and component selection for advanced vehicle systems. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in electrical design, enjoys solving technical challenges, and is comfortable taking ownership of projects from initial design through development and testing.

This is an opportunity to contribute to new product development, work on evolving vehicle technologies, and take on increasing technical responsibility within a growing engineering organization.

Prior military or defense industry experience is not required. Candidates with relevant electrical design experience from automotive, specialty vehicles, heavy equipment, or similar industries are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical wiring harnesses, schematics, and wiring diagrams, including routing, connectors, splices, and protection requirements.
  • Evaluate electrical requirements, perform necessary calculations, and select appropriate wires, connectors, terminals, and other components based on technical specifications and operating conditions.
  • Develop and maintain electrical Bills of Materials (EBOMs), engineering documentation, and design revisions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and software engineers to integrate electrical designs into vehicle systems.
  • Support prototype builds, harness routing, troubleshooting, system integration, and validation testing.
  • Work with suppliers to support component selection and harness manufacturing while ensuring designs meet applicable engineering standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on experience designing electrical wiring harnesses and developing electrical schematics.
  • Experience selecting electrical components such as wires, connectors, terminals, and related hardware.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, determine electrical requirements, and independently identify appropriate design solutions.
  • Experience using electrical design software to develop wiring harnesses and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to take ownership of projects in a hands-on engineering environment.
  • Ability to meet applicable U.S. export control requirements and obtain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with vehicle electrical systems in automotive, defense, heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with vehicle electrical architecture, including controllers, sensors, actuators, and electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, CAN FD, or J1939.
  • Experience working with MIL-STD, automotive, or other regulated industry specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype development, harness fabrication, or electrical system integration.
  • Experience with Solid Works Electrical, Siemens Capital, Zuken, Altium, or similar platforms.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Play an important role in expanding electrical engineering capabilities within an established, growing organization.
  • Work on advanced vehicle technologies and electronically controlled systems.
  • Take ownership of engineering projects from initial design through prototype development and testing.
  • Collaborate with experienced engineering teams, with opportunities for professional growth and potential future leadership responsibilities.
