The Pharmacy Manager Emerging Leader (PMEL) plays a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in their pharmacy by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team, while developing their own leadership skills in preparation for increasing responsibility.
- Live our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts, strengthening pharmacy performance measures through effective coaching and consistent follow‑up of pharmacy team members, and providing feedback to the Pharmacy Manager as needed.
- Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and directing the pharmacy team to follow the safety guardrails at every workstation.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, coaching the pharmacy team to do the same, and collaborating with the patient’s total health care team to proactively resolve insurance and medication issues.
- Proactively offer and deliver immunizations, and engage Pharmacy Technicians to learn to immunize.
- Manage pharmacy inventory by following best practices, especially protecting cold chain products for patients and the business.
- Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure operations are fully compliant with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, escalating issues as needed.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, support the Pharmacy Manager by writing schedules and ensuring compliance with all scheduling requirements, including state and local laws.
- Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, pursuing opportunities to expand knowledge to better support patients.
- Support access to care and improve patient outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services (e.g., COVID/Flu, Hormonal Contraception) where permissible.
- Understand and comply with all federal and state laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS Health policies and procedures to support patient safety, controlled substance dispensing, record‑keeping, patient privacy, and a safe and inclusive workplace.
- 6+ months of experience as a Staff or District Support Pharmacist.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and Focus:
- Concentrate on tasks over time.
- Pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
- Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
- Customer Service and Team Orientation:
- Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner.
- Notice and understand patients’ reactions, responding appropriately.

Skills:- Use verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues.
- Practice active listening, giving full attention, asking questions, and not interrupting inappropriately.
- Provide clear and actionable direction, coaching, and feedback to pharmacy team members.

- Use math to solve problems, such as determining total tablets to dispense, day’s supply, and/or full bottles needed.
