FTE: 1.0 (32–40 hours per week)

Work Schedule: 167 scheduled working days (8.0 hours/day), 4‑day school week

Salary Range: $44,000 minimum depending on experience

Overview

The English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish Teacher will design and teach lessons to develop students' understanding of written and spoken English and Spanish. This role includes teaching oral and written English and Spanish, tailoring lesson plans to individual students or classes, setting homework, assessments, and grading. The teacher should be passionate about the languages and cultures and energetic, inspiring passion in students.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Assess students' existing comprehension and fluency with written and spoken English and Spanish
  • Design dynamic lessons and activities to build confidence with vocabulary, syntax, and pronunciation
  • Provide instruction in small groups and conversational classes focusing on pronunciation and key phrases
  • Research teaching methods, materials, and language games for use in the classroom
  • Organize feedback sessions with students and parents as applicable
  • Collaborate and co‑teach with mainstream classroom teachers
  • Monitor language development and academic performance in partnership with main‑stream teachers
  • Serve as a resource for administrators and teachers and advocate for English and Spanish Language Learners and their families
  • Ensure appropriate language development for each learner’s proficiency level
  • Model, support, and promote rigorous instruction and high standards
  • Connect and collaborate with administrators, families, and students
  • Use technology to support instruction and individualize learning
  • Uphold all policies, rules, standards, and expectations set by state, federal, and district authorities
  • Maintain confidential records as required by law and district policy
Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and resilient
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to handle multiple responsibilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Flexible and adaptive teaching style
  • Ability to teach students with limited verbal or written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of language development and teaching strategies
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the content area or enrollment in a program leading to such a degree
  • Current Colorado teaching license or application in process with appropriate endorsement, or valid Colorado Substitute Teaching License with enrollment in an alternative licensure program (upload license documentation)
  • Bilingual ability;
    English and Spanish required
  • Preferred: experience as an ESL or Spanish teacher
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
