Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Location: Sterling, VA
OverviewFreyssinet USA, a specialized civil engineering contractor known for delivering innovative solutions in infrastructure repair, protection, and strengthening, is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist.
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for preparing and processing multi‑state, full-cycle payroll while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to company policies. This role supports the HR and Accounting departments through timely payroll execution, reporting, tax processing, and employee support. Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing- Upload, review, and verify time sheets for accuracy and policy compliance
- Prepare and process full-cycle payroll, including direct deposits and manual checks
- Maintain payroll records in accordance with company policies and audit requirements
- Process employee expense reimbursements and ensure policy compliance
- Prepare and file weekly, quarterly, and annual payroll taxes
- Process and maintain garnishments, child support orders, and other wage withholding requirements
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Prepare and submit specialized reports such as certified payroll and union reports
- Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries
- Prepare internal payroll reports as requested
- Assist HR/PR Manager with payroll audits or documentation requests
- Collaborate with HR and Accounting to support month-end close activities
- Manage multiple priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines
- Perform additional payroll or administrative duties as assigned

Education, Skills & ExperienceRequired Qualifications
- 3-5 years of full-cycle payroll processing experience
- Multi-state payroll experience
- Certified payroll, prevailing wage, and/or union payroll experience
- In-house payroll system experience (non–PEO)
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, procedures, and best practices
- Accounting background or related coursework
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines
- Proficiency with general office equipment
- Familiarity with payroll tax filing
- Experience working with HR or ERP systems
