job summarythe department of parks, recreation and community services is actively looking for qualified candidates for the position of head lifeguard - full time at the claude moore recreation and community center. The head lifeguard, in collaboration with the aquatics supervisor, oversees part-time staff in their daily responsibilities. The preferred applicant should possess experience in lifeguarding, pool chemistry, and pump room operations.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational abilities are essential, along with a dedicated commitment to enhancing water safety and providing enjoyable aquatic experiences. The recreation center includes a competition pool, a leisure pool, a slide, a children s play area, and a hot tub.
we are currently hiring for the following location(s):
- claude moore recreation & community center, sterling, va
- assist with the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising of lifeguard staff.
- maintain records of aquatics staff certifications and assist with new employee orientation for aquatics staff.
- perform daily custodial and maintenance duties to ensure a safe, clean aquatic facility.
- reconfigure pool for activities and events and assist with special events.
- observe and enforce pool rules and regulations.
- assist with clerical duties, including utilizing scheduling software, maintaining required aquatic facility records, and providing excellent customer service.
- monitor the use of aquatic facilities and equipment to ensure visitor and participant safety within the facility and compliance with applicable safety policies and practices.
- rescue distressed persons, using rescue techniques and equipment; contact emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury; provide emergency care and treatment as required.
- may carry out additional critical job responsibilities pertinent to the specific role and departmental assignment.
- the work schedule is subject to change based on operational hours and will encompass weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
- high school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of direct aquatics experience including aquatics programming and pool facility management, working with the public, groups and organizations.
- preferred qualifications:
- bachelor 's degree in recreation or leisure services or a related field.
- prefer 2-year supervisory experience.
- lifeguarding instructor, aed and supplemental oxygen preferred.
- water safety instructor
- certified ptha cpo/afo/certified pool operator
must undergo criminal, credit, and dmv background checks, and reference checks. Red cross or equivalent lifeguard certification. First aid certification. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification at time of hire. Loudoun county approved pool operator certification.
