The Role

Pomroy Associates is looking for an experienced Client Manager to join our growing accountancy practice in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

This is a key role within the firm. You will manage your own portfolio of SME clients, act as their main point of contact, oversee the delivery of high-quality accounts, tax and advisory services, and support the development of our wider team.

You will be trusted to build strong client relationships, lead client meetings, review work prepared by junior and semi-senior team members, and provide practical advice that helps business owners understand their numbers and make better decisions.

This role would suit someone who is technically strong, confident dealing with clients, and looking for a long-term opportunity in a modern, growing accountancy firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage your own portfolio of SME clients, acting as their main point of contact.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with business owners and directors.
  • Review year-end accounts prepared by Semi-Seniors, Juniors and Trainees.
  • Review corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, VAT returns and management accounts.
  • Ensure all work is accurate, compliant and delivered on time.
  • Lead client meetings, including accounts meetings, quarterly catch-ups and advisory discussions.
  • Prepare and present management accounts and financial reports to clients.
  • Provide practical, commercial advice to help clients understand and improve their businesses.
  • Identify advisory opportunities and work closely with Directors on client development.
  • Support clients with Xero, Dext, Syft, Apron, Engager and other cloud-based tools.
  • Mentor and support Semi-Seniors, Juniors and Trainees.
  • Help manage workloads, deadlines and job progress across your client portfolio.
  • Liaise with HMRC, Companies House and other third parties where required.
  • Maintain clear records, notes and actions within our practice management system.
  • Support the Directors with internal process improvements and service development.
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who can combine strong technical ability with excellent client relationship skills.

You should be comfortable managing client relationships, reviewing work, explaining financial information clearly and supporting junior team members. You will need to be organised, commercially aware and confident managing deadlines across a varied client portfolio.

The right person will be someone who enjoys working closely with business owners and wants to play an important role in the continued growth of the firm.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Fully qualified accountant, ideally ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients within an accountancy practice.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounts and tax for SMEs and owner-managed businesses.
  • Experience reviewing accounts, tax returns, VAT returns and management accounts.
  • Confident leading client meetings and explaining technical points clearly.
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members.
  • Good working knowledge of Xero and other cloud accounting tools.
  • Strong organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise work effectively.
  • Commercial mindset, with the ability to spot advisory opportunities.
  • Positive, team-focused attitude.
Why You'll Love Working Here
  • A supportive, people-first culture where your contribution genuinely matters.
  • Autonomy to manage your clients and workload with trust and flexibility.
  • Clear progression opportunities as the firm continues to grow.
  • A genuine opportunity to shape client service and support the development of the team.
  • A modern, cloud-based working environment.
  • Exposure to a varied portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients.
  • Ongoing training, CPD and mentoring.
  • Competitive salary with commission and bonus opportunities.
  • 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, your birthday off, and Christmas closure.
