Service Charge Accountant £45,000–£50,000 per annum, depending on experience Hertfordshire | Monday–Friday | Office-based Portfolio: 500–550 units An opportunity for an experienced Service Charge Accountant looking for autonomy, responsibility and direct access to company directors. We’re working with an established, medium-sized property business in Hertfordshire with a loyal and experienced team. Many employees have been with the business for several years, creating a stable and supportive environment. This is an opportunity to manage a 500–550 unit portfolio, working closely with the company directors and taking responsibility for the full service charge accounting cycle. The role would particularly suit a well-seasoned Service Charge Accountant who enjoys autonomy, professional responsibility and working in a less corporate environment.

The Role You’ll take ownership of your portfolio from day-to-day accounting through to year-end completion, working closely with Property Managers, directors, external accountants, clients and tenants.

Key Responsibilities Manage a portfolio of approximately 500–550 units. Prepare service charge income and expenditure reports. Prepare year-end service charge accounts and supporting schedules. Prepare manual trial balances. Handle accruals, prepayments, journals and bank reconciliations. Prepare supporting information for external accountants and liaise with them to resolve queries. Manage year-end deadlines and ensure accounts are completed on time. Assist with service charge budgets and budget reviews.

Calculate and raise service charge demands and tenant recharges. Monitor and assist with service charge arrears. Prepare client and management reports. Assist with annual audits, new property setups and financial handovers. Maintain accurate accounting records using MRI Qube PM. About You We’re looking for an experienced Service Charge Accountant who enjoys genuine ownership, autonomy and professional trust. You’ll ideally have:
Strong experience in service charge accounting. Experience managing a portfolio of approximately 500–550 units, or similar. Strong technical knowledge of residential service charge accounting. Experience preparing year-end service charge accounts. Strong reconciliation and trial balance experience. Good knowledge of accruals, prepayments and journals.

Experience with service charge budgets, demands, recharges and arrears. Strong Excel skills. Experience using MRI Qube PM or similar property accounting software. Excellent attention to detail and organisation. Strong communication skills and a professional approach. Qualifications AAT qualified, part-qualified or equivalent experience – desirable. ACCA – advantageous. IRPM or ATPI – highly desirable, but not essential. Strong practical Service Charge Accounting experience is essential.
