THE ROLE
Stevenage Borough Council is committed to providing safe, healthy and high-quality homes for our residents. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Surveyor - Damp & Mould to lead the delivery of our specialist damp, mould and condensation service within our Housing Property Services Team. This is a key leadership position responsible for managing the Council's approach to damp and mould across its housing stock, ensuring residents receive a professional, proactive and customer-focused service.
You will lead a team of surveyors, oversee complex cases and provide technical expertise to identify defects, develop practical solutions and ensure works are delivered to a consistently high standard. Working closely with residents, contractors and internal stakeholders, you will manage projects from diagnosis through to completion, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, health and safety legislation and best practice standards.
You will also play a leading role in complaint resolution, disrepair case management and service improvement initiatives as we continue to strengthen our response to damp and mould in preparation for changing regulatory requirements.
- Carry out detailed damp, mould and condensation inspections and surveys.
- Diagnose complex building defects and identify practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Prepare specifications, schedules of work, technical reports and estimates.
- Lead and manage a team of surveyors, ensuring performance, quality and customer service standards are achieved.
- Manage contractors, consultants and specialist suppliers to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Oversee projects from inception through to completion, including procurement and contract management.
- Provide technical advice on damp and mould, building defects, disrepair and building pathology.
- Manage complaints and disrepair cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure works are completed to specification.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, CDM Regulations and relevant housing standards.
- Manage budgets and validate contractor payments and quotations.
- Build positive relationships with residents and stakeholders whilst dealing effectively with challenging situations.
- Analyse performance data and contribute to service improvements, policy development and strategic planning.
- Deputise for the Disrepair, Damp & Mould Manager when required.
