Simulation Systems Engineer – Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop Team

Salary: Up to £46,000 depending on experience.

Working arrangement: Dynamic (hybrid) – 4 days per week on‑site.

Security clearance: British citizen or dual UK national with British citizenship. All successful candidates must undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS).

About the Role

Our Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HWIL/HIL) team conducts the most comprehensive tests of missiles, designing complex, real‑time simulations that surround real missile hardware to enable indoor firing. In this hands‑on role you will maintain simulations, ensuring simulators and control systems are fit for purpose, support multiple‑axis hydraulic motion simulators and antenna positioning systems, and perform planned and corrective maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic motion simulators and antenna positioning systems.
  • Plan and execute maintenance activities for simulation hardware.
  • Respond to unforeseen issues with flexibility and technical skill.
  • Document and report maintenance work.
  • Collaborate with test and engineering teams to optimise simulation performance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (2:1) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics & Robotics, Aeronautical or Electronics.
  • Broad engineering experience, particularly with hydraulic systems.
  • Computer Aided Design experience (CREO advantage).
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Workshop skills – hand and electrical tools.
  • Physical ability: psychomotor skills, dexterity, capability to work at height.
  • IT literate and able to use Management Information Systems (MIS).
  • Knowledge of control system theory.
  • Self‑initiated, collaborative team member.
