As an Export Control Specialist, you will oversee compliance with U.K., E.U., Canada, Israel and U.S. regulations and support all MDA Space locations worldwide.
Base location:
Any of our UK offices – Harwell, Stevenage, Manchester or Farnborough.
- Review and complete End-User statements.
- Apply for re‑exports re‑transfer authorisations for U.S.‑origin products with the U.S. Department of State or Commerce.
- Liaise with multiple departments to ensure all required export licences are in place for the release of hardware, software or technology (electronic transfers).
- Manage the U.K.’s online export licensing system (SPIRE) and related processes, including Standard Individual Export Licences (SIELs) and Open General Export Licences (OGELs), ensuring accurate applications with the UK Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external export compliance queries in the EU, UK and U.S. to ensure full compliance.
- Liaise with local and foreign government agencies to address trade controls matters.
- Oversee controls on the electronic transfer of technical data and software.
- Support other MDA Space locations worldwide on tasks outlined in this job description.
- Review & keep track of Technical Assistance Agreements, DSP‑5s and other export approvals, liaising with PMO to ensure compliance.
- Conduct export control reviews and assessments to determine export control classification under E.U., U.K., Canadian, Israeli and U.S. regimes.
- Assist in determining export license requirements.
- Provide export‑control related instructions to the shipping team prior to departures of shipments from MDA facilities.
- Monitor updates to export controls and sanctions legislation and assess business impact.
- Ensure no unauthorized access to controlled hardware or technology, managing access to segregated computer directories and facilities.
- Provide training and awareness sessions on U.K., E.U. and U.S. Export Controls to MDA Space employees.
- Report risks to management on a periodic basis, highlighting issues and risk‑mitigation strategies.
- Develop creative solutions to export issues, balancing business continuity.
- Support compliance investigations and internal audits.
- Support data‑management efforts ensuring regulatory data is properly marked, labeled and handled.
- Perform background checks on new hires.
- Conduct anti‑corruption due diligence and third‑party risk assessments for Europe and Israel.
- Support other trade‑compliance and security tasks as required by the Manager.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in export controls and compliance.
- Knowledge of U.K., E.U. export regulations, Strategic Export Control Lists; familiarity with U.S. and/or Israeli controls is a plus.
- Good understanding of anti‑corruption and due‑diligence practices and procedures.
- Ability to work in a team‑oriented environment with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage across organizational levels and with external customers.
- Strong judgement and ability to resolve complex export‑related issues.
- Deadline‑oriented, flexible, able to work under pressure.
- Good understanding of space technology is a definite asset.
- Hebrew language proficiency is a plus.
