In this role you will
- Deliver data solutions with measurable cross-organizational impact and value, including but not limited to: code libraries, analytical pipelines, data processing pipelines, visualizations, front-end tools, etc.
- Design and build solutions that leverage existing or planned cloud infrastructure from partner functions in Scientific Digital & Tech and GSK’s Onyx Research Data Platform.
- Enable facile data collation, preparation, and storage, perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in the data and communicate findings.
- Contribute to the overall Data & Predictive Sciences goals and objectives via implementation of relevant components of those objectives.
- Collaborate with research scientists and stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver appropriate solutions. Work with your Team Leader to prioritize your book of work.
- Work with other data scientists to build an understanding of the business context, systems, environment, strategy and people aligned to this area. This includes an understanding of the relevant internal and external high-volume data sources, validity and domains of such data aligned with business objectives.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- PhD or equivalent professional experience with a Masters in a relevant scientific domain with a significant data sciences component.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages: e.g. Python (preferred), R, Java, Java script, including tool chains for documentation, testing and operations.
- Scientific knowledge and/or acumen to understand GSK’s research data, including knowledge of genetics, omics, chemistry, biology or related scientific disciplines.
- Experience assembling (preparing raw data for analysis), analysing, and visualizing complex scientific data.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team across scientific and technical disciplines to deliver impactful solutions, build trusting relationships, and realize lasting business value in a matrix environment.
Preferred
Qualifications & Skills:
Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:
- Knowledge and experience of data analysis in scientific areas aligned to Target Discovery and Human Genetics & Genomics such as bioinformatics, cheminformatics, omics, statistics, image analysis, protein and small molecule structure.
- Cloud experience (e.g. Google Cloud, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes). Experience with modern software development tools / ways of working (e.g. Object-Oriented Programming, git/Git Hub, Dev Ops tools, CI/CD, metrics / monitoring, …)
- Experience with Nextflow.
- Experience of open-source software contribution or public library (Python, R, etc) development.
- Familiarity and/or experience with concepts related to Data Fabric, Data Mesh, and Data as an asset.
- Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning, and data manipulation libraries (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch would be advantageous).
- Experience with databases, data warehousing, building data pipelines, big data technologies and working with large scale biology, chemical or structural data.
