Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

We're recruiting a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our production operations. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Team Leader, you'll be responsible for planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance — ensuring our equipment performs optimally to meet business objectives. You'll work closely with operations and cross-functional teams to drive efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Be Doing- Conduct planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance to reduce downtime and improve plant performance
- Electrical fault finding on PLCs, motors, production lines and control panels
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and automation faults efficiently
- Respond to breakdowns and support new machinery installations
- Carry out installations, refurbishments, and upgrades in line with business and regulatory standards
- Drive continuous improvement and contribute to engineering projects
- Identify and resolve ongoing issues with long-term solutions
- Work towards a 'World Class' standard in maintenance through benchmarking and audits
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, food hygiene, and environmental regulations
- Manage spares and inventory, ensuring essential parts are available when needed
- Work a 4 on / 4 off rotating shift pattern (days & nights)
- Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, ideally in food manufacturing or FMCG
- Apprenticeship qualified or holding a City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or equivalent
- Strong mechanical and electrical competence, including confident PLC fault finding
- Problem-solving mindset with a proactive and detail-oriented approach
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic PC literacy, including familiarity with maintenance management systems
- Understanding of health & safety protocols and food hygiene regulations
- PLC programming experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment
