Job overviewWe are recruiting for a Registered Nurse – Emergency Department who shares our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. The role supports the expansion of our Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre, and offers opportunities for career development and skill enhancement.
Main duties of the job- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care needs of patients from admission (or before) to discharge, with the involvement of patients and their relatives/carers.
- Participate in the ongoing training, supervision and support of registered and non‑registered nursing staff, including Trainee Assistant Practitioners, Clinical Support Workers undertaking apprenticeships and pre‑registration Student Nurses.
- Evaluate own knowledge and practice and make effective use of appropriate learning opportunities such as department training, Trust training, conference attendance, shadowing staff, literature searching and reading.
- Communicate effectively and work in partnership with patients, nursing colleagues, the multidisciplinary team and all other relevant personnel.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, utilising escalation strategies such as SBAR and clinical pathways.
- Registered Nurse on Part 1, Part 2 or Part 12 of the NMC register.
- Commitment to lifelong learning.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Evidence of Assessing and Mentorship qualification.
- Experience with in an Emergency department or equivalent ward environment.
- Currently working in an acute ward environment within the NHS.
- Experience of supporting students or clinical support workers within the NHS.
- Evidence of good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to work within a team and autonomously.
- Recognising and managing acutely unwell patients.
- IV trained.
- Awareness of strategies for maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
- Understanding of Trust policies including IPC Standards, Uniform Policy, etc.
- Understanding of current NHS issues and 4‑hour performance targets.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
