Position: High Throughput Protein Production Scientist
For candidates seeking to be located at our Stevenage site, this role will temporarily be based ever, the Company plans to relocate its offices to Cambridge, UK. The location of this role will therefore subsequently change to Cambridge, UK in accordance with timelines to be set by the Company. The relocation is currently proposed to take effect by early 2029.We

Discover more about our company wide benefits and life at GSK on our webpage Life at GSK | GSKAs High Throughput Protein Production Scientist, you will join a team that utilises high throughput methodologies to scope optimal conditions for generation of biological reagents to support drug discovery programs. You will run and improve automated workflows for expression, purification and QC of proteins.

You will work closely with biologists, engineers and data scientists to meet project timelines and increase throughput. We value curiosity, practical problem solving and clear communication.

This role offers strong technical growth, visible impact on project success, and the chance to help unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease  this role you will…Run high-throughput workflows (96/384-well plates) and process data by established analysis pipelines

Perform ad-hoc data analysis in tools such as Excel, Spotfire, and Python Support the creation of democratised data analysis pipelines for other scientists to use (e.g. Signals Vitro Vivo)
Create and execute strategies for hypothesis-led investigation of protein libraries for key characteristics such as expression, purity or protein-protein interaction.

Develop and troubleshoot automation processes (e.g. CyBio FeliX)
Work with automation engineers and data scientists to integrate lab automation and experiment tracking systems.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

Degree in Biochemistry, Protein Engineering, Cell Biology, Biotechnology or a related discipline with extensive experience in the field

Hands-on experience expressing and purifying recombinant proteins using bacterial, yeast or mammalian systems.

Experience working in a lab environment with an emphasis on reproducibility and data integrity.

Experience working with automated liquid handling or robotic platforms, or demonstrable experience supporting high-throughput lab workflows.

Strong teamwork, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

MSc or PhD in a relevant life sciences discipline

Track record of developing or optimizing high-throughput protein production pipelines

Hands-on experience building workflows that enable efficient data re-use Practical experience with protein design tools such as PyMOL, MOE, Alpha Fold, or similar

Experience integrating LIMS, ELNs, or automation control software into lab workflows

Familiarity with mammalian cell culture scale-up and transient expression systems

Experience with advanced analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry, HPLC/UPLC, or biophysical characterisation (DSF, DLS, SPR/BLI)
