Position Overview

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) invites applications for a full-time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture, with the position beginning August 2026. This position offers a distinct opportunity to develop productive interdisciplinary practice and contribute to program growth within a stable, nationally recognized institution.

Primary Responsibilities

Teaching across the interior architecture curriculum as needed, including interior architecture studios, design foundation studios, professional practice, architectural systems, lighting design, design theory, culture and history. Successful candidates are also expected to develop and maintain a level of scholarship acceptable to university standards, while contributing to service within the Unit, School, College, and University.

Department

UWSP is one of only approximately 30 universities in the country to hold comprehensive national accreditation from all four major fine arts associations: the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD), the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This elite status demonstrates that the arts are non‑negotiable pillars of the university’s mission, ensuring a stable environment for professional growth and tenure success.

The position is housed within the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) and the dynamic School of Design and Communication (SDC), a structure intentionally designed to foster the genuine cross‑pollination necessary for modern, convergent design practice. The SDC strategically unites diverse yet synergistic areas:
Graphic Design, Art and Art History, Communication, Media Studies, and the CIDA‑accredited Interior Architecture program.

Mission of the Interior Architecture Program

The program provides a learning environment that encourages the development of competent interior design professionals at the Bachelor of Fine Arts level (BFA). The focus is on the ability to design quality interior environments that contribute to overall health, well‑being and safety of individuals, groups and the environment. Students develop visionary, conceptual, exploratory and analytical abilities through studies in liberal arts and sciences and professional design preparation.

The purpose is to graduate professional interior designers who can synthesize knowledge and creatively solve problems for a wide range of physical environments, including residential and commercial spaces, and for a diverse group of users. Graduates are competent in designing at different interior environmental scales from single rooms to integrated multi‑story facilities.
