PositionSummary
The Lead, Material Handling is responsible for overseeing daily material movement, storage, and inventory operations within the facility. This position provides hands‑on leadership to the material handling team, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate handling of materials while supporting production, shipping, and warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities- Team Leadership:
Provide direction, training, and support to material handlers; assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule. - Material Handling Operations:
Safely and efficiently operate and oversee the use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move, stack, and transport materials throughout the facility. - Inventory Management:
Oversee receiving, storing, and issuing of materials. Ensure accurate inventory counts, proper documentation, and timely updates to inventory systems. - Order Fulfillment:
Coordinate and assist with picking, packing, and staging of materials for outgoing shipments, verifying accuracy and delivery timelines. - Quality and Accuracy:
Inspect incoming and outgoing materials for damages, defects, or discrepancies. Report and resolve issues promptly to maintain product quality standards. - Safety Leadership:
Promote and enforce all safety policies and procedures. Conduct daily safety checks of equipment and ensure team compliance with PPE and safe material handling practices. - Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of material transactions, inventory levels, and team activities. Provide regular updates to supervisors on progress and issues. - Cross‑Department
Collaboration:
Work closely with production, purchasing, and shipping departments to anticipate material needs and ensure smooth workflow across operations. - Housekeeping and Organization:
Lead efforts to maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse environment. Ensure materials and equipment are properly stored and work areas remain clear. - Continuous Improvement:
Identify and recommend improvements to material handling processes, storage systems, and team efficiency.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in warehouse or logistics operations preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of material handling or warehouse experience, with some leadership or training responsibilities.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient with basic computer systems and inventory management software.
- Ability to lead by example and foster a team‑oriented environment.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods in a warehouse environment.
