Position Summary

The Finance & Compliance Associate will play a key role in shaping the financial systems, compliance structure, and long-term sustainability of Vantage Mental Health. This role is ideal for a mission-driven individual early in their career who is eager to learn and grow into an executive leadership position.

Initially focused on core financial management, reporting, and system-building, this position will evolve into a leadership role overseeing finance, compliance, and technology as part of Vantage’s executive team alongside the Executive Director and Director of Operations.

The role is hands-on, creative, and strategic — suited for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, learning new systems, and helping build a new model for nonprofit healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with accounting, bookkeeping, and financial recordkeeping using nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Support budget creation, forecasting, and monthly reconciliation processes.
  • Help develop transparent financial reports that align with Vantage’s open-compensation model.
  • Monitor expenses and help design efficient systems for tracking, reporting, and analysis.
  • Support grant reporting and compliance tracking.

Compliance & Organizational Systems

  • Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal nonprofit regulations, healthcare payer requirements, and internal policies.
  • Help implement processes for audit preparation, 990 filings, and other reporting obligations.
  • Support implementation of cybersecurity and HIPAA-compliant IT systems in partnership with the Operations Director.
  • Participate in risk management and internal control initiatives.

Technology & Process Development

  • Collaborate with leadership to identify AI and automation tools that streamline finance and compliance operations.
  • Help create workflows and dashboards that support transparency and efficiency across the organization.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Operations Director to align financial strategy with mission objectives.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions and leadership meetings.
  • Contribute to decision-making on organizational growth, sustainability, and innovation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Coursework or degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort with spreadsheets, data systems, and technology (experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or Quick Books Online preferred).
  • High integrity and alignment with nonprofit values of transparency and accountability.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

Preferred:

  • Interest or experience in nonprofit or healthcare finance.
  • Exposure to compliance, audit, or risk management processes.
  • Desire to grow into an executive-level leadership role.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools or AI-enabled financial systems.

Ideal Candidate

This is not a traditional finance job. It’s for someone who:

  • Is mission-driven and wants their work to have impact.
  • Is entrepreneurial
, ready to build systems rather than just manage them.
  • Thrives in a collaborative,
    non-hierarchical environment.
  • Wants to help solve complex problems in healthcare and nonprofit management.
  • Values transparency, integrity, and the freedom to innovate.

Compensation & Growth Path

  • Initial Phase: 5–20 hours/week at $20–$30/hour for 3–6 months.
  • Growth Phase: Transition to full-time Director of Finance role ($60,000–$80,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience).
  • Full benefits and professional development opportunities available upon full-time transition.
