Environmental Program Supervisor -Environmental Operations Team

The Department of Public Health and Environment is seeking a talented individual who has a personal calling to serve the public and protect the environment, for a role which will supervise the Environmental Operations Team. This supervisor will provide leadership and coaching to a team of environmental professionals in a dynamic accredited Public Health and Environment Department. This position will oversee operations of the Washington County North and South Environmental Centers, including yard waste collection sites, and will coordinate interdepartmental solid waste management programs such as satellite hazardous waste generator permits and medication drop boxes.

Responsibilities include overall program and facility oversight, staff support and evaluation, soliciting and directing contracted vendor services, coordinating with other county departments on environmental center building construction and expansion projects, implementing and executing facility operational policies and procedures, managing data, responding to emerging issues, and assisting with program budgets. This supervisor may participate in various stakeholder groups and committees and will inform and educate the public and county leadership about program activities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to this position, as well as the willingness to regularly provide useful and honest feedback to direct reports, peers, and department leadership. Work is performed under the direction of the Senior Program Manager and alongside department leadership.

• Professional experience providing customer service to the public and an understanding of cultural competency, diversity, inclusion, and health equity
• Professional experience leading and supervising staff or contractors
• Experience with local government procurement processes such as requests for proposals
• Familiarity with operational and equipment/facility protocols for the proper management of household hazardous waste

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Limited telework options may be possible with this position.

$90,105.60-$ Annually

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work performed is semi-sedentary in nature, and typically performed within the Government Center or a satellite office or other field work location. Lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, calculator, telephone, camera, and copy/scanner/fax machine. Must have means of reliable transportation for business purposes; individuals operating a motor vehicle for county business must possess a valid driver's license.

Work interruptions are frequent. There is some pressure associated with dealing with individuals who may be emotionally charged and with project or activity deadlines and details. May involve exposure to environmental conditions, including but not limited to, infectious diseases, vermin, dangerous animals, hot, cold, noisy, wet, dirty or dusty conditions, disagreeable odors, hazardous materials, physical hazards, or hazardous equipment. Employee may encounter reluctant, angry, aggressive, or threatening people and may be assigned to be on-site during disaster/emergency response and recovery operations.
