Work Schedule:

Fixed 12‑hour schedule of either 6 a.m.–6 p.m. or 6 p.m.–6 a.m. on a Pittman schedule of 2 on 2 off, 3 on 2 off, 2 on 3 off. Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. Opportunities for overtime; may be called to duty during emergency situations.

Hiring Range: $22.13 – $29.13 per hour

This role involves enforcing state laws and university policies while mentoring students, supporting major events, and serving as a visible safety symbol. Whether assisting students late at night, de‑escalating situations with empathy, or collaborating across departments, every day offers new opportunities to lead, serve, and grow.

• Provides effective leadership, management, training, and discipline for a shift of police officers and performs related administrative duties.
• Protects lives and property through modern law‑enforcement techniques to provide a safe, orderly educational environment.
• Crime Prevention/Safety Enhancement – Engaged proactively to prevent crimes or hazardous activities, reducing campus accident risks.
• Public Service/Public Relations – Assists faculty, staff, students, and visitors with everyday campus activities.
• Maintains Educational Environment – Enforces university rules and state criminal and traffic laws.

• High School/GED – General Knowledge (degree conferred on or before start date).
• High School/GED and a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited college. Two years of honorable military service or prior certified law‑enforcement experience can substitute for the 60 hours.
• Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

• Legally meet all state and federal employment requirements.
• Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
• Ability to pass a battery of mental and physical tests.
• Complete background investigation packet from the OSU Police/Public Safety Department.
• Successfully pass an extensive background investigation.
• Successfully pass a polygraph examination.

• Physical exam.
• Drug scan.
• Oklahoma Police Certification (CLEET Basic Police Academy).

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Officers must possess full sensory perception and verbal communication skills to handle law‑enforcement duties, interview proficiently, remain calm under stress, make rational decisions involving lives and safety, and perform physical tasks such as running stairs, lifting injured persons, operating vehicles, apprehending suspects, handcuffing, and firing department‑issued firearms. Officers must also become proficient in less‑lethal weapons, defensive tactics, traffic direction, and operating law‑enforcement equipment (vehicles, radios, radar, computers, A/V, fingerprints, less‑lethal weapons, firearms, shots, and breathalyzer).

All equipment qualifications require separate certifications.

• Other Professional Degree and continuing education in Human Interactions.
• Prior law‑enforcement experience in a university setting.
• Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
  State of Oklahoma CLEET Certification or equivalent out‑of‑state certification meeting CLEET reciprocity.
• Communication skills:
  Clear, concise communication and sound decision‑making in emergencies.
