We are recruiting on behalf of our client, an established and growing accountancy practice with a diverse SME client portfolio across multiple sectors. They are looking to appoint an experienced Payroll Senior to join their established payroll team, managing a varied portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring they are processed accurately and on time, and delivering an exceptional level of client service.
The RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for processing and managing a varied portfolio of client payrolls, working collaboratively with an experienced team to ensure payrolls are delivered accurately, efficiently and in line with current legislation.
Key responsibilities include:- Processing weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.
- Managing allocated client payroll responsibilities and ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Processing statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP.
- Managing pension auto-enrolment duties and pension submissions.
- Preparing and submitting RTI returns.
- Assisting with year-end payroll processes.
- Liaising confidently with clients, HMRC and pension providers to resolve queries.
- Ensuring payrolls remain compliant with current legislation and HMRC requirements.
- Reviewing payroll information to maintain consistently high standards of accuracy and quality.
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and workflows.
- Embracing new payroll technology, digital systems and automation opportunities.
- Sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues across the wider payroll team.
- Contributing to the continued development and improvement of the payroll department.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm.
- Private medical cover for all staff.
- Death in service cover equivalent to four times salary.

- Flexi Friday option for full-time employees, working an additional 45 minutes Monday to Thursday and finishing at lunchtime on Friday.
- Strong payroll experience, ideally gained within an accountancy practice or bureau environment.
- Experience processing multiple payroll frequencies, including weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
- Strong knowledge of statutory payments, pensions, RTI and HMRC requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of payroll compliance.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and general IT skills.
- Experience with IRIS Payroll Professional or Bright Pay would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence dealing directly with clients and external organisations.
- A proactive approach and genuine desire to contribute to the wider success of the payroll team.
- A willingness to embrace new technology and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- A collaborative approach, with a willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues.
- Has strong, hands-on payroll experience and excellent technical knowledge.
- Takes ownership of their work and consistently delivers accurate payrolls within strict deadlines.
- Builds strong relationships with clients and colleagues and delivers an exceptional level of service.
- Has a practical continuous improvement mindset and is confident suggesting better ways of working.
- Works collaboratively and is happy to support the wider payroll team where required.
