About the Company

At Dalcour Maclaren, we are a key player in the Utilities and Infrastructure industry, bringing the UK and Ireland closer to Net Zero every day. Our land, environmental and geospatial experts work together to unlock the consents needed by our clients to deliver key projects. Our services include land access and assembly, agricultural liaison, planning, environmental impact assessments and geospatial mapping.

We aim to be the professional services team of choice, leading the industry to a sustainable future.

Graduate Surveyor Programme

The Graduate Surveying programme ensures our graduates achieve qualified status through either the MRICS (APC) or AssocRICS (ATC) pathways. Our training programme, coupled with extremely valuable on‑the‑job experience, enables graduates to realise their full potential as a working professional and achieve ambitions to become leading surveyors of the future.

Job Responsibilities

Graduate Surveyors work on utilities and infrastructure projects, managing land‑related issues during the development of pipelines, power lines, roads and other infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating access agreements and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Assessing and handling compensation claims for landowners.
  • Minimising the impact of projects on agricultural land and rural properties.
  • Acting as the intermediary between clients and landowners, overseeing land access and management while ensuring fair compensation and resolving disputes.

A day in the life of a Graduate Surveyor could involve any of the following:

  • Providing expertise: delivering land and property advice to a range of clients to help them make informed decisions.
  • Heads of terms & licences: agreeing Heads of terms and contractual agreements with stakeholders on behalf of clients to aid the delivery of infrastructure projects.
  • Site noticing: putting up notices to inform land owners of client schemes.
  • Records of condition: reviewing and advising on various land types, undertaking schedules of condition of private land.
  • Site visits: witnessing the tangible impact of your work on utilities and infrastructure across the UK and monitoring progress.
  • Compensation and valuation: assessing the financial impact of infrastructure projects, agreeing compensation claims; valuing land, property, agricultural losses and general disturbance.
  • Handling landlord and tenant relationships: overseeing tenancy agreements and ensuring legal compliance.
  • Property and asset management: managing and optimising the performance of real‑estate and other tangible assets.
  • Problem solving: working with the DM team and clients to advise on risks and reach solutions.
  • Data and technology: delivering large‑scale schemes through innovative big‑data, technology and reporting functions.
Requirements

We do not expect you to be an expert from day one; we are looking for the right combination of skills and attributes such as proactivity, problem‑solving and a keen eye for detail. To enrol on our programme you must:

  • Hold a RICS‑accredited or relevant degree that allows you to sit either your APC or ATC to become MRICS or AssocRICS qualified.
  • Possess a full UK driving licence and have your own means of transport.
Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer:

  • A fully funded professional qualification (APC or ATC) with support, mentoring and coaching from an experienced RICS training team and our DM Academy.
  • Internal and external CPD events, interactive online training and off‑site graduate training days.
  • Clarity and transparency around career pathways with significant progression opportunities.
  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme.
  • 25 days annual leave plus 1 day to celebrate your birthday.
  • Flexible advantage policy – allowing you to strike the work‑life balance.
  • Private healthcare through Vitality (including discounted insurance, gym & fitness discounts, travel and wellness benefits).

  • Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice scheme (from 1 year’s service).
  • Professional development – paid study leave.
  • Military service paid leave (7.5 days per year).
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and broader mental health & wellbeing support.
  • Company‑wide events twice a year plus multiple office socials.
