ABOUTTHE ROLE S
We are looking for Character Look Dev Artists with a strong knowledge of Unreal Engine.
There are two roles available at Lead and Senior level.
Responsibilities- Creating both Character assets in Look Development in Unreal Engine
- Work closely with CG Supervisors and Lighting Supervisors to determine the best approach to solving CG challenges when developing the final look
- Create efficient shader setups in order to optimise render farm usage
- Manage and maintain standard material libraries using established shading templates for consistency and pipeline efficiency
- Design, implement and maintain complex, custom shading networks and materials for high-priority ("hero") assets when bespoke solutions are required
- Lead roles are expected to take ownership of allocating work to team members to ensure the department delivers work on time and within the project scope.
- Ideally you will have worked in feature production in a similar role.
- Proficiency with asset optimisation
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine, which can be from a games, feature or vfx background.
- Work closely with texture and modelling artists to get the best possible results
- A strong grasp of geometry formatting
- Ability to build and maintain complex shading networks with artist usability and user-interface support in mind
- Knowledge of Unreal Engine is highly beneficial
- Can work collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time well, provide everyone with accurate time estimates on shot task completion
- Artists must be based regionally within the UK (outside the M25) and we’re particularly keen to connect with Scotland-based artists.
Fully remote or Scottish-based artists would be welcome to work hybrid from our studio in Stirling.
CONTRACT TYPERoles will be offered on a freelance contract, expected to start from September / October 2026 running until early 2027.
HOURSOur standard studio hours are 7 working hours a day (usually 10am to 6pm), Monday to Friday. We are open to discussing flexible working hours on an individual basis where this is possible within the production pipeline.
