The RoleWe are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Assembly Engineer to take ownership of pump assembly and testing operations at our Stirling facility. This is not a production-line role. You will be responsible for building precision rotating equipment and helping to improve and standardise our assembly processes as volumes increase. You will work closely with the Managing Director in a small, focused engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities- Precision assembly of marine pump units and sub-assemblies
- Bearing installation and fitment (heated fits, retaining compounds, correct tolerances)
- Assembly of shaft and seal systems (mechanical seals, V-rings, labyrinth seals)
- Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings
- Functional testing and final inspection
- Identifying and implementing improvements to assembly procedures
- Supporting development of controlled build documentation
- Proven experience in precision mechanical assembly
- Experience working with rotating equipment, gearboxes, pumps or similar assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong understanding of mechanical fits and tolerances
- High attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to work independently in a small engineering team
- HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering or time-served apprenticeship
- Experience with stainless steel and bronze components
- Experience in small-batch or SME manufacturing environments
- Experience developing or improving workshop processes
- Competitive salary (£35,000-£40,000 depending on experience)
