Job Overview
Full‑time permanent Teaching and Learning Assistant position in the Student Services department. The role will commence on September 2, 2025. Reporting to the Service Delivery Team, the TLA will support teaching and learning in an inclusive environment, focusing on planning, instruction, social‑emotional learning, assessment, evaluation and collection of student data.
Responsibilities- Assist the Service Delivery Team in implementing programs and services for students, including the delivery of instructional supports.
- Possess an understanding of child and youth development.
- Assist students with executive functioning skills and coregulation.
- Observe individual student progress and behavior under the direction of the Service Delivery Team.
- Work collectively to maintain a safe, secure and supportive environment for both students and staff by applying de‑escalation strategies and staying calm in stressful situations.
- Encourage students to develop independent skills, self‑esteem and self‑confidence.
- Promote students to participate in classroom activities, non‑instructional time activities, field trips and other opportunities.
- Participate as a member of school teams to meet student needs.
- Maintain effective professional working relationships.
- Commit to ongoing professional learning and a willingness to enhance skills and knowledge through continuous development.
- Exhibit highly effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Assist students with alternate‑format materials and the operation of specialized assistive technologies.
- Teacher’s Certificate Level Two (II) from the Teacher Certification – Department of Education.
- Approved programs for Certificate Level Two (II) may include: ECE Level 2, Child & Youth Care Worker, Child & Youth Care Worker with Addictions Support, Disability Services & Support, Diploma in Social Services, or 20 university courses (60 credit hours).
