Marine Institute (Full time Contractual Position to April 2027)
The Marine Institute of Memorial University is a technically oriented education, training and applied research institution offering an array of programs including short courses, certificate, diploma, and undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The Office of Student Recruitment works collaboratively with various areas of the Marine Institute to develop and implement the Institute’s student recruitment and engagement strategy. The office seeks an energetic team player to support the Institute’s engagement initiatives aligned with the Future Ocean Initiative, aimed at empowering youth, educators, and underrepresented communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Key Responsibilities Include
Develop, coordinate, and execute outreach activities to engage youth, educators, and underrepresented groups in sustainable oceans and blue economy careers, including initiatives such as the Model Boat Competition, Nautical Skills Competition, MATE ROV Competitions, and Youth & Sustainable Blue Economy workshops.
Lead initiatives to foster engagement with Indigenous communities, new Canadians, and youth in rural areas, establishing partnerships with organizations to expand access to ocean‑related educational programming.
Oversee the planning and scheduling of events, including budget management, program development, and the creation of materials tailored for diverse communities across the province.
Recruit and onboard mentors, support their professional development, and coordinate work‑term opportunities for students involved in the program.
In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team, develop and distribute marketing and informational materials to promote program initiatives and sustainable development values, manage social media updates, and highlight the Institute’s outreach efforts.
Additional duties include proposal writing, data collection, and reporting on engagement metrics to monitor the success of program participation and reach.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have 3–5 years of experience in public engagement and event planning, complemented by a university degree in science, education, or business, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Familiarity with coordinating events, experience in grant writing, and strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
Experience with university policies and academic programming is considered an asset.
Salary : $64,361 ‑ $87,763 (Management & Professional)
