Job SummaryFull‑time TERM Student Services Teaching and Learning Assistant at Topsail Elementary. Duties commence September 8, 2026, and continue through June 25, 2027. The TLA works with the Service Delivery Team to support inclusive teaching and learning in areas such as planning, instruction, social‑emotional learning, assessment, evaluation, and collection of student data.
Key Responsibilities- Supports and assists the classroom teacher with planning responsive teaching and learning.
- Gathers evidence of student learning and uses strategies to reinforce diverse teacher instruction to support learning.
- Creates and maintains a supportive, safe, and inclusive environment.
- Engages collaboratively with families and the school community.
- Demonstrates professionalism.
- Assist the Service Delivery Team in implementing programs and services for students, including the delivery of instructional supports.
- Have an understanding of child and youth development.
- Assist students with executive‑functioning skills/coregulation.
- Observe individual student progress and behavior under the direction of the Service Delivery Team.
- Work collaboratively in maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for both students and staff through the application of de‑escalation strategies and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Encourage students to develop independent skills, self‑esteem, and self‑confidence.
- Promote students to participate in classroom activities, non‑instructional time activities, field trips, etc.
- Participate as a member of school teams in meeting the needs of students.
- Maintain effective professional working relationships.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning with a willingness to enhance skills and knowledge through professional learning.
- Highly effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to assist students with alternate format materials and the operation of specialized assistive technologies.
- Teacher's Certificate Level Two (II) from Teacher Certification - Department of Education.
Annual Teacher Salary Scale is contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits are also included in the agreement.
