Full Time TERM School Counsellor, St. George's Elementary, CBS. Duties to commence September 8, 2026 to June 25, 2027, or until incumbent returns.

As School Counsellor, you will be part of the school-based service delivery team and be responsible for the development of an annual comprehensive school guidance program that outlines interventions promoting the holistic development of students.

Reporting to the Principal or designate, you will provide leadership to school staff, service to students, implement assessments, and participate in response planning for possible critical incidents/traumatic events. You will further the aims and objectives of NLSchools and support improved educational opportunities through program support.

Your work will be guided by the Standards of Practice for School Counsellors, including comprehensive school guidance program, education system and ethical responsibilities, student development and diversity, comprehensive assessment, counseling and career development, and crisis intervention.

• Knowledge of proactive measures in creating a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment.
• Demonstrated experience in individual and group counseling and in utilizing data and resources to support student and school community needs.
• Extensive understanding of the assessment process and its implications for student learning and adherence to departmental comprehensive assessment guidelines.
• Ability to implement comprehensive assessments, including formal assessment of achievement and cognitive ability.
• Knowledge of DSM-5 information relevant to students served.
• Understanding of the diversity of human growth, development, behavior, learning, and promotion of holistic development.
• Understanding of ethical requirements for a comprehensive school guidance program.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with stakeholders supporting the guidance program.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills in collaboration with students and parents/guardians in decision-making.
• Success in fostering partnerships, conflict mediation and resolution, facilitation, collaboration, and consultation.
• Strong team building, time management, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Understanding of the process of career development for students from K–12.
• Strong understanding of legislation related to child protection, children, and youth.
• Understanding of the education system and supporting student learning and development.
• Commitment to ongoing professional learning to inform personal practice.

• Bachelor of Education
• NL Teaching Certificate – Level IV or higher
• Masters degree in counseling psychology, including courses in psychological assessments

• May require the use of a personal vehicle and travel.

Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
