PAL Aerospace is accepting applications for motivated Offshore Ice and Environmental Observers (Full Time Fixed-Term) to join our team based in St. John’s, NL
, for the 2026 ice season.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Travel offshore for up to three-week durations at a time when requiredWork 12-hour shiftsCollect and report ice, weather, and marine wildlife information in an offshore environmentInterpret data, analyze results, and report to facility clients/managementLiaise with clients and senior representatives offshoreEnsure that all data is collected and analyzed in a manner consistent with the quality assurance proceduresProvide ice and weather updates as required, and participate in daily ice meetingsMake recommendations regarding ice surveillance and ice management actionsLiaise with support vessel bridge crews on ice management activitiesOther duties as requiredQualifications:
Post-secondary education or experience in a marine-related field would be an assetSeabird and marine mammal experience would be an assetProficiency in marine navigation or chartworkExcellent written and oral communication skillsSelf-starter with the ability to work under minimum supervisionProficient in Microsoft Office Suite of productsStrong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracyPrevious experience working with meteorological, oceanographic, or marine wildlife data would be an assetAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentFlexibility in schedule to meet requirements for ice season offshorePAL Aerospace gives preference to candidates with the following:
Valid BST and H2S Alive Certificates (please submit certificates with job application)
Marine Radar Certificate (i.e. ARPA, SEN-1, Rutter training)
Marine wildlife identification training or experience
Previous experience in weather or ice observation
Previous experience using radio communication (ROC-M or ROC-A certificates)What we offer:
