7–9 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in energy, oil & gas, or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent heavy industrial environmentsProven ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems and apply root cause analysis to failuresStrong understanding of reliability principles, maintenance strategies, and rotating/static equipmentFamiliarity with applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulatory frameworksDemonstrated ability to work effectively across teams, influence decision‑making, and communicate clearlyExperience with advanced engineering and analysis software toolsWe acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific qualification.
Responsibilities:
Deliver daily engineering and troubleshooting support to maintenance and operations teams. Respond to equipment and asset failures with sound technical solutions to safely return systems to serviceEvaluate mechanical equipment health, recommend reliability improvements, and participate in condition and predictive monitoring programs to optimize equipment life and minimize downtimeDevelop and execute engineering scopes for maintenance and turnaround (TA) events. Partner with the Reliability and Turnaround teams to ensure readiness, high-quality execution, and compliance with Suncor standardsPrepare and review engineering work packages and vendor repair scopes. Provide field guidance to ensure safe, cost-effective, and compliant repair and replacement activitiesRespond to field needs offshore and onshore, lead or support incident investigations, and manage small or temporary Management of Change (MOC) projects to address urgent operational issuesWork closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions. Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers or technicians and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learningApply and uphold Suncor’s engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes. Use advanced engineering and analytical tools to identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure safe, reliable operationsLocation and other Key Details:
Qualified residents of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be given first consideration in the staffing of this positionThis is an office-based role.
