Brunel is currently seeking an experienced Underground Operations Superintendent to join a leading global mining organization at Voisey’s Bay, Labrador. This is a permanent, site-based leadership opportunity within a world‑class underground operation supporting the production of critical minerals including nickel, copper, and cobalt.
This role will be responsible for the safe and efficient execution of underground mining activities, supporting both production ramp‑up and steady‑state operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving operational performance, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement across the underground mining function.
Responsibilities Oversee the safe day‑to‑day management of underground mining operations
Deliver against weekly and monthly production and maintenance plans
Achieve or exceed production targets, quality metrics, and cost objectives
Maximize economic resource recovery and operational efficiency
Monitor and analyze performance across safety, production, cost, quality, and resource utilization
Support and participate in Asset Integrity reviews, identifying risks and implementing improvement actions
Contribute to annual and 5‑year capital planning, including execution support
Lead workforce planning, development, and succession planning initiatives
Provide leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to the operations team
Drive the implementation of new systems, processes, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements Post‑secondary education in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or eligibility for registration
Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in underground mining operations
Demonstrated experience in underground mine development and production, including cut & fill and bulk mining methods
Proven experience in senior leadership roles within mining operations
Strong knowledge of underground mining practices, including drilling & blasting, ventilation, backfill, and mine design
Solid understanding of safety regulations, standards, and best practices
Experience with production planning, scheduling, and performance tracking
Familiarity with SAP and Microsoft Office tools
Experience working in a unionized environment
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to lead teams, facilitate discussions, and drive performance outcomes
