Mission
The Senior Well Engineer located in St.Johns Newfoundland is responsible for providing technical leadership and engineering support for drilling and well construction activities on complex offshore projects. The role requires strong well engineering expertise, operational knowledge, and the ability to identify, evaluate, and implement technologies and practices that improve drilling performance, safety, efficiency, and well delivery outcomes.
The Senior Well Engineer serves as a key technical resource supporting well planning, operational performance analysis, technology deployment, continuous improvement initiatives, and collaboration between multidisciplinary teams throughout the well construction lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities Well Engineering & Planning- Support well design, planning, and execution activities for drilling and well construction operations.
- Participate in risk assessments, technical reviews, and operational readiness activities.
- Ensure application of engineering standards, best practices, and lessons learned throughout project execution.
- Analyze drilling performance data to identify trends, recurring challenges, and improvement opportunities.
- Lead or participate in flat-time reduction and drilling efficiency initiatives.
- Monitor well delivery performance against technical and operational objectives.
- Support benchmarking and performance reviews across wells, rigs, and campaigns.
- Develop recommendations to improve operational efficiency and well construction performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve drilling efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance operational performance.
- Identify and evaluate emerging drilling, completions, and well construction technologies.
- Develop technical recommendations in supporting technology adoption.
- Collaborate with technical specialists, service providers, and operational teams to transition technologies from concept to field deployment.
- Lead engineering studies to resolve drilling and well construction challenges.
- Conduct root cause investigations and develop corrective action recommendations.
- Support analysis of wellbore stability, lost circulation, drilling dysfunctions, equipment performance, cementing challenges, and other operational issues.
- Capture and communicate lessons learned to support continuous improvement.
- Degree in Engineering.
- 5+ years’ experience in drilling and well construction engineering.
- Offshore drilling experience
- Strong understanding of well design, drilling operations, well delivery processes, and performance optimization.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and implementing new technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively with operators, drilling contractors, and service providers.
- Proven ability to identify opportunities, drive technical improvements, and deliver operational value.
Must have the legal right to work in Canada without visa sopnsorship.
