Location: St. John's

Overview Of Position  This position's responsibilities are, under the general supervision of the Safety and Security Manager and Division Operations Security Supervisor, to coordinate and support daily operations of assigned security specialist staff, to coordinate and respond to critical incidents, to maintain and coordinate emergency communications and school mapping data, and to collaborate with school administrators to ensure the safety of students, staff and district property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS   Leads and coordinates work activities for School Security Specialist staff and assists building administrators in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and staff; checks daily attendance for adequate staffing and ensures adequate security coverage for school events.
Maintains close liaison with the Safety and Security Logistics Supervisor, building administrative staff and school personnel to identify and evaluate security related matters or situations which may disrupt normal school operation; provides guidance and support; assists with training during orientation and induction phase, works with staff to improve performance; documents data related to performance appraisals; resolves difficult situations in a constructive and positive manner.
Develops and shares information regarding disruptions, incidents or illegal activity following district and department protocol; refers to immediate supervisor any potentially dangerous or sensitive situations which may effect normal school operations.
Identifies and responds to activities and emergencies which may disrupt normal school operations; physically or verbally intervenes to prevent conflicts; reports such matters to school administrators and requests assistance from community youth services, fire department or law enforcement agencies per district and department protocols. Communicates with parents per department protocols. Provides extra staffing for after school events for assigned schools as necessary and per district protocols/agreements.
Reviews incident reports from each assigned school; assists Security Specialists with investigations; maintains liaison with community agencies; law enforcement;
Child Protective Services and the courts as necessary; shares information with appropriate agencies following district and department protocol.
Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records and correspondence for assigned area; maintains emergency communication tactical network and school mapping information for assigned schools; updates information per state requirements.
Assists in establishing positive rapport with students, parents, District staff and community agencies; promotes communication with students to ensure a safe campus environment; encourages prescribed standards of conduct and behavior and positive student attitudes.
Investigates disturbances, records incidents, gathers data and prepares reports for use in students discipline and by law enforcement, Child Protective Services and the courts as necessary.
OTHER FUNCTIONS   Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS  Reports to Operations Supervisor and Manager of Security; coordinates with Building Administrators and assigned staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS  Requires the ability to make effective decisions and solve problems using sound judgment in crisis situations; requires individual initiative and teamwork; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult individuals and "at risk" youth; use personal safety techniques with aggressive individuals; requires excellent listening skills; may be required in some positions to have sufficient dexterity, mobility, physical ability and stamina, to restrain students and staff in accordance with established guidelines, sufficient mobility to respond to student needs and safety requiring moderate physical effort as a part of regular work routine, such as frequent standing, handling/grasping, constant walking, rotation, flexion extension of head and neck, seeing, hearing/talking, occasional carrying, bending, stooping, twisting of the waist, reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, guiding and/or carrying materials or equipment up to 50 pounds;

riding a bike; requires visual concentration and manual dexterity to operate radio, phone and paperwork; may be required to attend extracurricular activities; required to travel between sites; work outside in all weather conditions; required to work effectively and communicate with groups and individuals of all ages in a multi-cultural community.
