Location: St. John's
Job Summary
The Social Worker provides professional Social Work services in the area of the Community Support Program. The incumbent provides counselling, assessment and referral services; manages caseloads and prepares and analyses reports. The Social Worker will also be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.
This position reports to the Division Manager for Community Support and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work for professional integrity and practice issues.

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
Regularly sits to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, and to work on the computer.
Occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions; pushes, pulls, and sets up furniture for group work, and drives to conduct home visits with clients.
Regularly uses fine finger/precision work on a computer.
Job Qualifications
Graduation with an accredited Bachelor of Social Work Degree is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers is required.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of community resources, systems and programs.
Knowledge of crisis intervention and supportive counseling.
Knowledge of case management.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment and interventions with individuals, families and groups.
Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Conditions of employment include the use of a private vehicle.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
