Reporting to the Settlement Services Manager, the Life Skills Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing life skills programs and activities for our clients. The officer will work closely with our settlement services team to identify the needs of our clients and develop programs that will help them acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in their new homes.

The Life Skills Officer will also work collaboratively with other departments to ensure that the programs and activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of the organization.

• Develop and implement life skills programs and activities for clients in collaboration with the settlement services team. This may include workshops, training sessions, group activities, and individual coaching
• Conduct needs assessments to determine the life skills training needs of clients
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the life skills programs and activities, and make recommendations for improvements
• Create and maintain program materials, including participant manuals, training materials, and evaluation tools
• Collaborate with other departments within the organization to ensure that life skills programs and activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of the organization
• Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, and other service providers to enhance the life skills programs and activities offered to clients
• Document and report on program outcomes, and maintain accurate records of participant attendance and program evaluations
• Stay up-to-date with best practices and trends in life skills training, and incorporate new ideas into the programs and activities offered to clients
• Other duties as required

• Relevant Human Services degree (equivalencies will be considered)
• Skilled in crisis intervention, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
• Ability to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication (both written and oral) skills
• Previous case management experience supporting a vulnerable population
• Knowledge of specific issues facing refugees and immigrants
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience developing goals, timelines, and delivery methods to achieve set objectives
• Accurately record and compile client statistics and accomplishments to include in monthly activity reports
• Ability to speak a second language is an asset – Arabic, Dari, Pashtu, Farsi, Tigrigna preferred

• Valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
• Legal status to work in Canada
• Flexible to work outside of standard core hours (Monday-Friday, 9am
  -5pm)
• Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
