Job DescriptionPosition Title: Emergency Preparedness Coordinator
Reports To: Vice President Quality Advancement & Regulatory Affairs
Position Summary: Under general direction, provides information, consultation, assistance, and support to all Georgia nursing centers and assisted living communities with emergency planning, preparedness and response activities and coordination related to the provision of health care services during all-hazards or other emergency situations as outlined in the federal guidance from Assistant Secretary for the Preparedness and Response-Healthcare Community Preparedness Program (ASPR-HCPP);
assess the nursing home and community resource capacity related to emergency preparedness, identify priority needs, and supports the development and testing of community-wide response plans within the Council Regions.
- Maintain and communicate knowledge of the laws and regulations governing emergency preparedness, management, and life safety in long term care facilities.
- Maintain and communicate knowledge of emergency and/or disaster planning principles and practices in long term care facilities.
- Serve as primary liaison to the Georgia Department of Public Health to support emergency preparedness and response with all Georgia nursing centers and assisted living communities.
- Ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the Georgia Department of Public Health Emergency Preparedness Contract.
- Prepare appropriate invoices, reports, and other deliverables required by the Georgia Department of Public Health Emergency Preparedness Contract to ensure compliance.
- Provide support and assistance to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s HCPP-Vulnerable Populations Coordinator regarding nursing center and assisted living community emergency preparedness activities, training, and education.
- Establish and maintain relationships and serve as liaison with federal, state, county, and other emergency management and life safety organizations as appropriate.
- Serve as liaison to the Regional Healthcare Coalitions.
- Serve as a representative for various state and countywide emergency management meetings.
- Coordinate trainings, meetings, and other health care emergency preparedness and response activities.
- Provide in-person and distance learning education programs for staff members of nursing centers and assisted living communities in Georgia related to life safety, emergency preparedness, assessment, and planning.
- Advise members on requirements and communicate changes in federal and/or state statutes, regulations and policy governing emergency management/preparedness/planning and life safety code issues.
- Serve as the liaison to the Emergency Preparedness Committee to support the development and execution of the Board’s emergency preparedness and life safety goals and objectives.
- Act on findings, recommendations, actions and monitor activities of the Emergency Preparedness Committee.
- Represent the Association, serving as liaison to the national affiliate regarding both state and federal emergency preparedness policy issues and proposed legislation.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related discipline with three (3) years of experience in healthcare and/or disaster or emergency planning, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience related to the duties of the position. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Strong communication skills; communicates effectively, orally and in writing, as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
- Ability to read, understand, interpret, and discuss complex information and documents.
- Proficient computer skills (intermediate to advanced) with database and/or spreadsheet software (Excel), word processing software (Word), and presentation software (PowerPoint).
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong organizational skills reflecting the ability to prioritize and effectively perform multiple tasks.
- Ability to educate, train and mentor staff and Board.
- Ability to prioritize and follow through effectively.
- Ability to work well with staff and members; a team-player; yet, willing to execute day-to-day tasks and work independently.
- Ability to think critically, anticipate needs and offer solutions.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
This position is full-time salaried, commensurate with experience.
Office is located in Stockbridge, GA.
Position requires approximately 60% travel.
