Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg unit providing care to adult and geriatric patients, requiring a GA or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital-based Medical-Surgical unit
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with medical and surgical diagnoses such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, small bowel obstruction, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, hypertension, diabetes, prostatectomy, and bowel surgeries
- Handles specialized equipment including NGT, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and wound vacs
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6 with a 34-bed unit and average daily census of 27
- Uses Epic for charting, Pyxis for medication, and SBAR communication
- Day shifts available (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:00), with every other weekend required
- Floating required within the facility
- No on-call responsibilities
- Primary responsibilities include caring for a range of medical and post-surgical patients utilizing advanced clinical skills and equipment
- Travelers may be floated within the facility based on staffing needs
- First time travelers are accepted
- Scrub color required is navy blue
- Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Full compliance with pre-employment requirements is mandatory to start on time, with a 2-week delay if not compliant
- If one major holiday falls within assignment, holiday coverage is required; if two, both holidays are required; if three, two holidays must be worked
- Locals are accepted at the same rate
- No blocked scheduling is permitted
- Travel pairs are not permitted to be assigned the same shift on the same unit
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg nursing experience
- Current certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - Experience with adult and geriatric patient populations
- Ability to use Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR systems
- References from two supervisory sources (manager or above) required for consideration
- Perm/PRN staff must be away from all Piedmont facilities for at least 1 year to return as traveler
- Return travelers unable to return to one facility must complete a successful assignment outside of Piedmont before rebooking at a new location
