The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of collection vehicles to provide solid waste, recycling, and yard waste services. This role offers consistent work, local routes, and the opportunity to build a long‑term career with an industry leader.
What You’ll Do- Safely operate collection vehicles (automatic and standard transmission) on assigned routes.
- Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections and complete required documentation.
- Report mechanical issues, accidents, or incidents immediately to supervisors and maintenance teams.
- Adhere to all company, local, state/provincial, and federal safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle interior and exterior.
- Provide professional, courteous service to customers and the public.
- Use required PPE at all times.
- Manage assigned helper(s) when applicable.
- Handle special pick‑ups and adjust routes as needed.
- Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and development opportunities.
- Assist in training and mentoring other drivers.
- Perform duties as assigned by management.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Minimum of one year of commercial driving experience or completion of an accredited CDL training program.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to meet safety‑sensitive job requirements.
- Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and customer service.
- Knowledge of commercial vehicles and safe operating procedures.
- Ability to maneuver vehicles in tight spaces and maintain back distances of 120 feet or more.
- Recognition of unacceptable or hazardous waste.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to read route sheets, maps, and safety documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively using proper techniques.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing routes and schedules.
Physical Requirements
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, traffic, and mechanical equipment.
- Driving duties require sitting up to 75% of the day.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, climb, and lift as required.
