Sapphire is an employee-owned payroll, accountancy and technology business supporting recruitment companies and contractors across the UK and beyond.
We’re now looking for a Payroll Technician to join our team in Stockport.
This could suit someone who already has payroll experience, or someone with strong numerical, administrative or finance experience who wants to build a professional career in payroll.
You’ll be given the training and support to develop your payroll knowledge, take ownership of a portfolio of clients and work towards professional payroll qualifications.

What you’ll be doing- Processing payroll accurately and on time in line with individual client requirements
- Developing responsibility for your own portfolio of payroll clients
- Ensuring the correct PAYE and National Insurance deductions are applied
- Reconciling payroll payments and working closely with our Finance team
- Investigating and resolving payroll queries
- Building strong relationships with clients and understanding their individual requirements and deadlines
- Liaising with clients around assignments, timesheets, invoicing and payroll queries
- Developing your knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Working collaboratively with the wider team to continually improve the service we provide
Ultimately, our payroll team’s priority is simple:
making sure everyone is paid accurately and on time.
We’re more interested in finding someone who has:
- Strong numerical ability and excellent attention to detail
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines
- Confidence communicating with clients and colleagues
- A positive, proactive approach to learning
- Experience in payroll, finance, administration or another detail-focused role would be useful
- A genuine interest in building a long-term career in payroll
Experience with in the umbrella payroll industry is not required
