MB4 (£54,109 - £61,627 inclusive of 20% market supplement), Pay Award Pending
This role is eligible for an Essential Car User allowance of up to £963 per annum, plus generous standby allowance for taking part in the out-of-hours rota.

Your Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Building Control Inspector registered at Class 2A-F, holding significant Building Control experience with working knowledge of building regulations and legislation and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

In this varied role, you will manage a portfolio of building projects, carrying out plan assessments and site inspections to ensure compliance with Building Regulations, the Building Act 1984 and associated legislation.

You will provide professional advice and guidance to residents, developers, contractors and other stakeholders, helping to deliver safe, compliant and high-quality development across the borough. The role includes investigating dangerous structures, unauthorised works and complaints, taking enforcement action where required, and participating in an out-of-hours rota.

Working closely with colleagues, elected members, external agencies and industry professionals, you will contribute to excellent customer service, support less experienced inspectors, and help develop and promote the Building Control service. You will also be committed to maintaining professional standards, continuous development, and working in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Registered Building Inspectors.

About You

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Registered Building Inspector who is passionate about delivering a high-quality Building Control service and helping to keep people safe.

You will hold Registered Building Inspector status at Class 2A-F and a recognised Building Control qualification such as RICS or CABE membership. With substantial Building Control experience gained in either the public or private sector, you'll have a strong understanding of the Building Act, Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and associated legislation.

You'll be an excellent communicator with strong organisational and prioritisation skills, able to build positive relationships with customers, colleagues and stakeholders. A team player by nature, you'll enjoy working collaboratively whilst also managing your own workload effectively.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2A-F.
  • Has significant Building Control experience and a sound understanding of the role of a Registered Building Inspector.
  • Possesses strong technical knowledge of Building Control legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, customer service and negotiation skills.
  • Has strong IT skills and is confident using digital systems to process plans and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Is committed to continuous professional development and maintaining professional standards.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and can travel across the borough to carry out inspections and duties.
