About the Role
As a Family Liaison Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students and their families by building positive, trusting relationships and removing barriers to engagement with education. Working in a non-judgemental, supportive and solution-focused way, you will empower parents and carers to access the right support and make the most of the opportunities available to their child. You will be a calm, approachable presence within the school, working closely with pastoral, behaviour and safeguarding teams to ensure families feel listened to, informed and supported in line with the school’s ethos and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for families requiring additional support, building strong, trusting relationships that encourage positive engagement with the school. This includes maintaining regular communication, carrying out home visits where appropriate, and providing early engagement opportunities for families prior to a child joining the school.
  • Coordinate and contribute to multi-agency support by completing referrals, signposting families to external services, liaising professionally with partner agencies, and attending meetings to support joined-up planning and positive outcomes for pupils and families.
  • Play a key role in safeguarding and pastoral support across the school, acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, maintaining accurate and confidential records, and ensuring all case notes and documentation meet safeguarding and policy requirements.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, providing consistent, individualised support that promotes inclusion, independence, self-esteem and engagement in learning. This includes contributing to Individual Education Plans and Behaviour Plans, providing feedback on progress, and using specialist skills or training to meet individual needs.
  • Support wider operational and wellbeing needs, including assisting with medication administration, supporting pupil transport arrangements, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
About You
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at minimum Level 4 (Grade

    C)
  • Full UK driving licence and your own vehicle
  • Compassionate and empathetic communicator with a genuine commitment to supporting families through challenging circumstances
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
  • Confident in managing complex caseloads, prioritising effectively, and maintaining accurate records
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the ability to respond appropriately to concerns
  • Able to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including schools, social services, and community organisations
  • Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring all families feel respected and supported
  • Proactive in identifying needs and signposting families to relevant support services
