Your RoleBredbury Green is a new three-bed children’s home in Romiley for children aged 8 to 18. We are creating a warm, nurturing and stable home where children feel safe, cared for, listened to and able to thrive. As Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager and take a leading role in turning this vision into consistent everyday practice.
You will be the operational leader of the home, confidently deputising when the Registered Manager is unavailable and remaining visible and connected to children and staff. You will lead through relationships, professional curiosity and sound judgement: supporting the team to understand behaviour as communication, apply trauma-informed and PACE-informed care, maintain safe and predictable boundaries and keep children’s lived experience at the centre of decisions.
You will oversee safeguarding, care planning, risk management, staffing, recording and quality assurance, and help create a culture of high support, respectful challenge, reflection and continuous improvement. Your knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations, the quality standards and Ofsted’s inspection framework will help you recognise what good care looks like in practice, monitor children’s experiences and progress, identify concerns early and lead improvements that make a meaningful difference to their lives.
You
We are looking for someone who can combine warmth and emotional intelligence with clear accountability and operational confidence. In your application, please explain how you meet the following criteria:
- Proven ability to build safe, respectful and trusting relationships with children, families and professionals, with a good understanding of trauma, attachment, disability, identity and contextual safeguarding.
- Experience of leading, supervising, coaching and developing staff, including giving constructive feedback and helping colleagues translate learning into everyday practice.
- Demonstrable competence in assessment, matching, risk management, care planning, safeguarding decision-making and accurate, defensible recording.
- A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or an accepted equivalent qualification, GCSEs in maths and English or equivalent, and confident IT skills. A relevant Level 5 leadership qualification is desirable; where this is not held, you must be willing and able to work towards it within agreed timescales.
- In-depth knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards and Ofsted’s inspection framework, with at least two years’ relevant experience in residential childcare within the last five years and at least one year in a senior role.
Come and work in the public sector, where your leadership can make a difference to children and young people in your own community. At Stockport, we strive for excellence in the care we provide and want every child and young person living in our homes to receive thoughtful, consistent support.
