CURE – Associate Respiratory Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the existing Respiratory Nursing team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 nurse with a keen interest in Respiratory Medicine. This role will be a fixed term / secondment for 12 months.

The main focus of the role will be working alongside the established CURE team and the delivery of the CURE project - Tobacco addiction within the Trust. The role will also comprise of assisting the delivery of Respiratory Nursing services under the guidance of the existing team developing your skills and knowledge in respiratory areas such as ILD, COPD, Asthma, pleural and Bronchiectasis.

Main duties of the job

The CURE project is a comprehensive secondary care treatment programme for tobacco addiction within Greater Manchester. The role will also comprise of assisting the delivery of Respiratory Nursing services under the guidance of the existing team, which would equate to approximately two sessions per week although subject to service demand.

This role will look to suit a motivated, enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in Respiratory care. The ideal candidate must demonstrate their ability to work under pressure, be adaptable to change and thrive in an environment with a varied workload. At present, the service provides cover 7 days a week.

Job responsibilities
  • Develop knowledge and skill in smoking cessation management to support patients with the CURE project.
  • Active smokers will be systematically identified during hospital admission, immediately provided with nicotine replacement therapy for the duration of the admission.
  • The post consists of dedicated time to clinical practice, seeing patients on the ward, running telephone clinics, some teaching / training, as well as providing advice to other multidisciplinary team colleagues across the trust.
  • Provide specialist knowledge and care to patients, relatives, carers and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Work alongside the established Respiratory Nurses, developing skills and knowledge in all areas of respiratory care and management.
  • Assist with local and national mandatory audit collection work which may include reviewing notes retrospectively to establish information required to complete.
  • Develop knowledge and skill regarding respiratory conditions, investigations and treatment. Understand how the Respiratory Nursing team fits into the wider Respiratory Team.
