An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to gain 12 months experience as Matron for the Infection Prevention & Control Team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The Matron for Infection Prevention & Control will provide a highly visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas. The Matron will be available to patients, their families and staff to provide expert infection prevention and control advice, support and to address problems and concerns as required.

Main duties of the job

The Matron will support the Associate Nurse Director for infection prevention & control (IPC) to deliver the Trusts IPC strategy. The individual will be responsible for providing and supporting IPC leadership across the Trust, setting and auditing standards of IPC, ensuring that they are evidence based and reflect best practice.

The Matron will support effective management of the IPC team with an enabling style of leadership, delivering an IPC service across all sites. The Matron role is key in relation to the management and delivery of the regional and national IPC agenda and will be responsible for daily operational delivery of a complex infection prevention programme across Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder must be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, be a quick thinker, problem solver and demonstrate proven and effective leadership skills.

The post holder must be confident to deliver expert advice to clinical and non-clinical colleagues both within the trust and externally, to continuously help to reduce risk and avoid harm, and to improve patient safety and experience. You must therefore be able to consistently promote principles of good IPC practice, even in times of severe operational and clinical pressures.

Job responsibilities

The Matron is responsible for ensuring safe Infection Prevention & Control practices are in place and adhered to in order to facilitate safe care delivery and support effective and efficient patient flow.

They will ensure employees adhere to policy in relation to Infection Prevention and hygiene and take personal accountability for addressing issues / shortfalls as required

The Matron will act as a role model and will take corrective action to uphold the standards required of the Trust and the nursing profession.
